The Testimony Of The Spirit

23 Friday Nov 2012

“Unbelievers think that religion is a matter of opinion and so demand rational proof that Moses and the prophets were divinely inspired, if they are to have sufficient ground for belief.

My reply is that the testimony of the Spirit is superior to reason. As God alone can truly bear witness to His own words, so these words will not be given complete acknowledgement in the hearts of men, until they are sealed by the inner witness of the Spirit.” – John Calvin

Kicking Against The Goads

23 Friday Nov 2012

A yolk is often placed around the necks of two or more beasts of burden (oxen, etc…) often, the tendency is for them to kick backwards in protest.

The farmer plowing with them will often use goads (sharp sticks) to control their kicking: the idea is that when these oxen kick backwards they feel a sharp prick.

Goad:

 –noun

1. a stick with a pointed or electrically charged end, for driving cattle, oxen, etc.; a prod.

2. anything that pricks or wounds like such a stick.

3. something that encourages, urges, or drives; a stimulus.

–verb (used with object)

4. to prick or drive with, or as if with, a goad; prod; incite.

—Synonyms – spur, push, impel.

Before God changed his name to Paul, the then Saul was on his way to the city of Damascus, Syria to persecute Christians when a bright light was all around him. He heard the voice of Jesus. The men around him could not hear the words that Jesus was saying to him.

“As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”…

And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads (pricks).” – Acts 9:3-5

The Days Of Creation

The Creation of Adam

There are two basic attempts at answering the question of how man came into being:

 1) Creation

 2) The Theory of Evolution…which necessarily depends on The Big Bang Theory.

Creationism teaches that God Himself spoke all of creation into existence, while the Theory of Evolution says that man evolved from lower life forms. The formula for Evolution goes like this: nothing plus no one equals everything.

There’s no such thing as a true Atheist (an atheist is a person who says that he knows there’s no God). A person who claims to be an atheist is really just an Agnostic (an agnostic is a person who says that he doesn’t know if there really ‘is’ a God).

Our atheistic school system teaches The Theory of Evolution and would be quick to make you feel that if you believe in Creationism, then you must not be very smart…………hmmmmm!

Here is the true account of Creationism:

Day One: “Let There Be Light.”-

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth WAS FORMLESS and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. – Gen 1:1-3

Day Two: “Let There Be An Expanse.”-

And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. – Gen 1:6-7

Day Three: “Let The Earth Sprout.”-

And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. – Gen 1:9-11

Day Four: “Let There Be Lights.”-

And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. – Gen 1:14-15

Day Five: “Let There Be Animals”-

And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. – Gen 1:20-21

Day Six: “Let Us Make Man.”-

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. – Gen 1:26-27

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning–the sixth day. – Gen 1:33

Scripture tells us that each of these days had one evening and one morning (One complete day each). This alone is enough to dispel the Theory of Evolution.

3 Examples Of Christian Myths

Example #1

There are several different kinds of ‘angels’ mentioned in Scripture, but they are not gods, deserving of man’s worship; rather they are a class of created beings. A common understanding is that when a Christian goes to heaven he/she becomes an angel, however this is not the case. We will be given glorified bodies, each person being known as he/she was while on earth but even still, we will belong to the race of man.

Example #2

The ‘Holy Trinity’ (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) consist of two personalities (the Father and the Son) and a third entity called the Spirit. This Spirit is the product of the Father and Son, and without them the Spirit wouldn’t exist…right? WRONG!

The Holy Spirit is in Himself a personality, God. So much so that the Christian can even pray to Him. The Holy Spirit is just as much God as the Father and the Son. The mystery here isn’t about the Holy Spirit but the fact that all three personalities can make up one God.

Example #3

Q: Are we made in the ‘image of God’?

A: Genesis 1:26 tells us that man was created in the image of God (Adam), but after this event we’re told that sin corrupted man (and the rest of creation). Genesis 5:3 explains to us that Seth was created in the image of Adam.

So, God created man (Adam) in His own image (God is sinless), but the remainder of man was created as a fallen creature!

However, on this subject some Bible scholars will point to the fact that our body, soul and spirit (The Trichotomy of man) as being a reflection of God. Since God is spirit and the human has a body, “in the image of God” does not mean that the human was created to looklike Him.

So, in the end, the question isn’t completely answered!
