A: Exodus 1:8 tells us that a new king (Pharaoh) came into power who did not know Joseph. This new Pharoah was fearful of just how large the Jewish population had grown. He was afraid that if he didn’t do something about them right then, that they might possibly turn on the Egyptians and make slaves of them. So he made them slaves.
